The thesis aims at re-structuring the particle module of the PLUTO code for astrophysical plasma dynamics (http://plutocode.ph.unito.it) in order to take full advantage of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
The current implementation, written in the C programming language, makes extensive usage of linked lists. This implementation, however, is not well suited to be easily vectorized and parallelized on GPU owing to its lack of "indexing".
The thesis requires knowledge of the C programming language, Linux environment and fluid dynamics. Applications may include high-energy astrophysical jets, protoplanetary disks and particle acceleration in electro-magnetic fields.
